HTMA Mineral Testing: What Your Hair Reveals About Your Health | Jennifer Snell, FDN-P
HTMA Mineral Testing

See What Is Really Going On Inside Your Body

Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis reveals your mineral levels, metabolic patterns, and stress response. It is a simple at-home test that shows what standard blood work cannot.

What Is Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis?

HTMA (Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis) is a functional lab test that measures 35+ minerals, heavy metals, and toxic elements using a small sample of your hair. It gives you a 3 to 4 month snapshot of what is happening at the cellular level.

Unlike blood work, which shows what is circulating in your bloodstream at one moment, HTMA reveals long-term patterns in your mineral status, metabolism, nervous system stress, adrenal and thyroid function, blood sugar handling, and detoxification capacity.

This is the test I use most often with my clients because minerals are the foundation for everything. Your hormones, energy, mood, sleep, digestion, and immune function all depend on having the right mineral balance. When minerals are off, everything else struggles to work properly.

What Your HTMA Results Show You

Mineral Levels

See your levels of calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, zinc, copper, iron, and more. Identify which minerals are depleted and which are elevated.

Mineral Ratios

Ratios between key minerals reveal how your thyroid, adrenals, hormones, and blood sugar systems are actually functioning, not just what is present.

Heavy Metals

Check for toxic elements like mercury, lead, arsenic, aluminum, and cadmium that can interfere with your energy, mood, and overall wellness.

Metabolic Type

Understand whether your metabolism is running fast or slow, and how your body is responding to stress at a cellular level.

Stress Patterns

Your mineral ratios reveal your nervous system state. Are you in a chronic stress response? Exhaustion phase? HTMA shows the pattern.

Detox Capacity

See how well your body is able to process and eliminate toxins based on your mineral and heavy metal levels.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get results?

The lab typically processes your sample within 2 to 3 weeks. Once results are in, we schedule your review consultation within a few days.

Does insurance cover HTMA testing?

HTMA is a functional test and is not typically covered by insurance. However, many clients find the investment worthwhile because of the depth of information it provides compared to standard blood work.

Do I need to stop my supplements before testing?

We will discuss this during your discovery call. In most cases, you continue everything as normal so we can see how your body is responding to what you are currently doing.

Is HTMA testing accurate?

HTMA has been used in clinical and research settings for decades. When interpreted by a trained practitioner, it provides valuable information about mineral status and metabolic patterns that blood tests do not capture.

What if I color or treat my hair?

We can still use your hair sample in most cases. During your consultation, I will walk you through the best way to collect your sample based on your specific hair care routine.

Can HTMA help with perimenopause symptoms?

Many of the symptoms women experience during perimenopause, including fatigue, brain fog, mood changes, and sleep issues, are connected to mineral imbalances. HTMA helps identify those specific patterns so we can support your body through this transition.
