I Gained 30 Pounds and Could Not Explain Why

There was a season in my life where I looked in the mirror and did not recognize my own body.

The weight came on fast. Not from eating more. Not from moving less. It just showed up, like my body had decided to hold on to everything it could.

If that sounds familiar, you are not alone. So many women say the same thing: "I have not changed anything. I am eating the same. I am exercising. But the weight just keeps creeping up and nothing I do stops it."

I lived that exact frustration. During one of the most stressful seasons of my life, I gained 30 pounds and could not explain why. I knew the stress was a factor. I could feel it in my body. But the scale would not budge no matter what I tried.

What Is Really Going On

When your body is under chronic stress, it produces more cortisol. And cortisol tells your body to store fat, especially around your midsection. That "cortisol belly" is not a willpower problem. It is a stress response problem.

But it goes deeper than that.

Chronic stress also depletes your minerals. And when minerals like magnesium and potassium drop, your metabolism slows down. Your thyroid function can become sluggish. Your body shifts into survival mode, and survival mode is not interested in letting go of weight.

I experienced this myself. I was doing all the "right" things and getting nowhere. It was not until I looked at my mineral levels through HTMA testing that I started to understand what my body actually needed. Not less food. Not more exercise. The right support at the cellular level.
